What is Contensis?
About Zengenti and Contensis. UK-based software development company, Zengenti, is the creator of Contensis. Established in 2001, Contensis is an enterprise, headless content management system (CMS) with an integrated deployment platform. The CMS powers websites for leading organisations in the UK, Europe and North America across various industries such as higher education, local government, manufacturing and the private sector. About the CMS. Contensis manages huge sites and publishes global content naturally. The user interface (UI) is easy to use and simple to manage. Built on a scalable architecture, Contensis can deliver content through multiple channels formatted for any device. The headless nature of Contensis separates the way your content is created and stored from the way it is presented, offering a single place to create, maintain and deliver content. It lets you build a site around your content, so it works exactly how you need it to. Create content in advance so your project stays on track, or break it up into pieces of modelled content that you can reuse in other websites and apps.a Contensis features. The content modelling, authoring, and governance features in Contensis help teams to create and keep on top of well-structured content. Open APIs make it easy to integrate with leading platforms (including Zapier) and products to deliver immersive digital experiences for audiences. Our community love Contensis. It provides them with an elegant user experience and an unrivalled sense of ownership over their content.

Review Summary
Generated using AI from real user reviews
Contensis earns strong approval from both users, who praise its workflow flexibility, scalability, and search capabilities. Users highlight the ability to manage multiple projects under one Enterprise instance with granular permissions, smooth cloud hosting that removes infrastructure burden, and solid APIsβparticularly the image API and Management API for importing content and exploring multi-format delivery. The visual preview feature and intrinsic search are noted as working well out of the box.
Both reviews identify a learning curve upfront; one user found template training essential to gain confidence, while the other notes the page editor can feel fiddly for new users. The newer content modelling approach, while opening possibilities like voice skill integration, reportedly lacks some features from the older page model and the two don't fully integrateβa friction point mainly for existing sites. Design changes also become harder with legacy page templates still in use.

"We took our time procuring a CMS, but made the right decision for us." Comments: The template training in Ludlow proved most useful at the start of our association with Zengenti. This gave us the confidence to quickly develop templates and configure the CMS. Without this, I can see how it may appear complex - especially if this is your first experience of a comprehensive CMS. Pros: Contensis allows us to fulfil our business goals. For example, by using the Enterprise edition on a cloud hosted platform, we have been able to support our associated businesses and currently have 18 projects (websites) in the CMS. Cloud hosting allows us to concentrate on our responsibilities rather than the working environment of the CMS itself. This also encourages us to regularly upgrade. The intrinsic search worked well straight out of the box and is easily refined to produce good results. Permissions can be assigned at high level or down to individual folders on the template or even a content type.

"Excellent value CMS and hosting package" Comments: The strong workflow enables different groups of users to edit individual sections with varying levels of approval. Has enabled us to reduce the number of pages on the site and increase the quality while maintaining a high degree of control and flexibility. Pros: Strong workflow, excellent visual previewing, excellent image API, good development direction, good custom extensibility. The Management API enables us to import content from other systems simply and effectively. The move to content modelling, with a Delivery API has opened up possibilities for displaying content in multiple formats (we are currently exploring an Alexa Skill). Cons: Page editor can be fiddly for new users. Recent switch to content modelling is still lacking some of the features of the page model and the two do not interact fully (more of an issue for existing sites). The old style page templates make it harder to change the site design
