Edge cases will find you eventually, and Schoolzilla found mine about three months in. My firm manages data analytics for several K-12 districts, so I'm not a single-school user poking at one SIS feed. I'm juggling multiple client environments, each with their own source systems, their own attendance quirks, and their own idea of what a 'cohort' means. Schoolzilla handles the straightforward integrations well. The 135-plus source connectors are real, the longitudinal dashboards save my clients a lot of back-and-forth with spreadsheets, and the goal-tracking module is genuinely useful for leadership check-ins.
Where I hit walls: custom data sources that fall outside their supported connector library require a support ticket and a wait. One client uses a homegrown behavior-tracking system, and getting that data in cleanly took close to six weeks of back-and-forth. Not a dealbreaker, but if you're working with non-standard data pipelines, plan for that runway. I also noticed that cross-client reporting, looking at aggregate trends across districts, isn't really something the platform is built for. That's a consulting workflow, not a district workflow, so I get why it's not a priority for them. Still, it means I'm maintaining a separate layer outside Schoolzilla to do that kind of synthesis.
A year in, my clients are happy. Attendance and assessment dashboards are clean, the customizable views mean principals actually open the thing instead of waiting for me to pull reports, and Renaissance's support team responds reasonably fast on standard issues. This is a solid choice for districts and for consultants serving them, as long as you know where the guardrails are before you commit.
