Adaptive Multi-Factor Authentication is the feature I keep coming back to when someone asks why we chose Okta. Two years in, and I'm still finding new ways to tune the policy conditions. The ability to set context-aware rules, device trust, network zone, user risk level all feeding into a single access decision, means I've stopped fighting fires and started running a properly structured access programme. My four-person identity team used to spend half a sprint chasing down VPN exceptions. That's mostly gone now.
Onboarding was straightforward, though I won't pretend the policy engine has no learning curve. It does. Give it two or three weeks to stop second-guessing yourself. Customer support has been decent rather than outstanding, which is my one honest gripe. But the feature depth here is genuinely impressive for a mid-market department that doesn't have enterprise-scale headcount. If you care about fine-grained access control rather than just ticking a compliance box, Okta earns its place.
