Real-time data tracing sounds like exactly what a mid-size educational nonprofit needs, and in the straightforward cases, Cyberhaven delivers on that promise. The lineage view is genuinely useful for showing auditors where sensitive student records travel, and the policy controls are clear enough that I didn't need to bring in a consultant to configure them. My team picked it up without much friction, which I didn't expect.
That said, the edge cases have been a persistent headache. Shared network drives with legacy folder structures confuse the tracing engine more than I'd like, and for about a year now I've been filing tickets about data flows that get misclassified when staff move files through our older document management tools. Customer support is responsive but often circles back with workarounds rather than fixes. For a non-profit budget, you feel every dollar, so the gap between what the product promises and what it actually handles in messy real-world environments is hard to overlook.
